Who operates this service

The Measure operates The Measure at themeasure.style and cutandcompass.com. Privacy questions, access requests, corrections, objections, and deletion requests can be sent to privacy@themeasure.style. Editorial questions can be sent to edit@themeasure.style.

Information we collect

Saved collections

Items you save are stored in your browser's local storage. They are not transmitted to The Measure and can be removed by deleting saved items or clearing site data in your browser.

Newsletter records

Newsletter signup and delivery are currently paused, and the site does not request new email addresses. If the dispatch is reactivated, we will collect an email address, consent time, confirmation status, unsubscribe status, source domain, and delivery history. Subscription will require a confirmation link sent to the address provided. Existing records remain subject to the retention and rights described below.

Reader questions

If you send a question, we collect the question, its category, your consent time, and any name or reply email you choose to provide. Identifying details are optional and are not published unless you separately agree.

Commerce events

When you use a “Where to buy” link, we record the approved link, its placement, the page path, destination host, source host, commission status, and time. The event does not contain a reader account, email address, full IP address, advertising identifier, fingerprint, or cross-site identifier.

Connection and security data

Our hosting provider necessarily processes ordinary connection information such as IP address, user agent, request time, and security signals to deliver the site, enforce rate limits, and prevent abuse. The Measure does not add a full IP address to its newsletter, question, or commerce databases.

How we use information

• Provide and secure the site, newsletter, reader desk, and commerce reporting requested by readers.
• Confirm consent, deliver editions, process unsubscribes, answer questions, and maintain legally necessary suppression records.
• Measure aggregate interest in editorial buying links without building reader profiles.
• Investigate abuse, maintain service reliability, comply with law, and establish or defend legal claims.

We do not sell submitted contact information. Advertising and advertising cookies are currently disabled. If advertising is introduced later, this policy and the consent controls will be updated before advertising technology is activated where consent is required.

Service providers and external sites

Cloudflare provides hosting, security, database, image-delivery, rate-limiting, and email infrastructure and processes information on our behalf under its applicable terms. A seller or other external site receives ordinary connection information when you choose to follow an external link and handles it under its own privacy policy. We may disclose information when required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, or service integrity.

Retention

• Unconfirmed newsletter requests are deleted after seven days.
• Active newsletter records are retained while you remain subscribed. After unsubscribe, the address and status are used only as a suppression record and are deleted after three years, unless a longer period is legally required.
• Unpublished reader questions are deleted after 12 months. For answered questions, optional name and email fields are removed after 12 months; anonymized editorial text may remain in the publication's archives.
• Raw commerce events are deleted after 13 months.
• Hosting and security logs are retained according to the provider's service configuration and applicable terms.

Your choices and rights

You can unsubscribe using the link in every edition. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of information you submitted by emailing privacy@themeasure.style. We may ask you to verify control of the relevant email address before acting. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to object, restrict processing, receive a portable copy, withdraw consent, or complain to a privacy regulator. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing already completed lawfully.

Children

The Measure is a general-audience publication and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13. A parent or guardian who believes a child has submitted information should contact us so it can be removed.

Security, international processing, and changes

We use access controls, transport encryption, rate limits, input validation, and data minimization intended to protect reader information. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure. Because online service providers may operate internationally, information can be processed outside your state or country under the safeguards available from the relevant provider.

We may revise this policy when services or legal requirements change. The effective date will be updated, and material changes will be highlighted before they apply where required.
